Can't even talk about it.

The Secret Stages festival is going on in Birmingham, AL this weekend.  There’s lots of awesome to chose from and even some interesting schedule dilemmas that one will face.   We’re sadly not making it over this weekend, but we’re here to help and maybe/hopefully provide a little insight.  There’s a rule of thumb that we always use at SXSW- enjoy where you’re at at that particular moment and forget about all of the other cool stuff that’s going on all around you….and heck, if wherever you’re at isn’t cool, you won’t have to go far to pick another option.
Here’s the complete schedule - http://secretstages2012.sched.org/
and here’s some of our picks…
Friday
Adam Faucett is playing the public stage at 6:45 so this should help anyone torn between his 11:00 slot that goes up against the mighty Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires.
Cortney Tidwell @ 7:30
Future Virgins @ 8:00
Floating Action @ 8:30 - I don’t know anything, but they had me at Dr. Dog in the artist description.
Junior Astronomers @ 9:00 - somebody we know has played shows with them so that’s gotta account for something right?
Lambchop @ 9:30 -  Duuuuuuuh!
River City Tanlines or comedian Rivers Langley @ 10:00 - Rivers is from Auburn, which you may think is a bad thing, but we see this as a really good thing.  War Damn some Laffs.
Frank Fairfield @ 10:00 - This dude is classic.  Straight out of a time capsule from 1920.  In a good way…
Adam Faucett @ 11:00
Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires @ 11:15
Buffalo Killers @ 11:30 - I’ve heard good things…
Terry Ohms and Them vs. Lauderdale - This is tough…real tough.  It’s definitely the biggest scheduling issue I’ve seen.  One (Terry) is a Birmingham institution that doesn’t play a whole lot.  The other (Lauderdale) super up and coming band from the now thriving Shoals scene.  Both bands will force you to drink, so there’s that…good luck.
Fishergreen @ 1:00 - again…Duh!
Saturday
Baby Baby - 4:00  I (CF) love Baby Baby…sweet fellas.  Atlanta kids…kinda rap, kinda punk, total indie, kinda Black Lips, totally awesome…
Robert Ellis - 7:45 Robert’s friends with Jonny Corndawg.  That’s enough for me to recommend him.
Baby Baby - 8:00
Lydia Loveless / Hartleroad / Nightmare Boyzz @ 9:30 - This is a colossal log jam…Lydia’s a really good friend of TIAM so we’ve got to go with her.  Heck, she taped a Sound Opinions, so you better get her in a small bar quick!  None of these are bad choices.  Hartleroad used to be The Motions.  They were kinda/totally badass.  Nightmare Boyzz are one of my favorite Alabama bands at the moment.  Shoals dudes that put on a total party that are best seen in the early hours somewhere between midnight to dawn.
Rev. John Wilkins @ 9:45 - Rev. John is a national treasure.  I don’t know it for sure, but something tells me Matt Patton will be joining him on bass…can’t miss.
The Deep Dark Woods @ 11:00 Canadian Americana?  We love Deep Dark Woods…been fans for years now it seems.  This is a Secret Stages (or any other time) can’t miss.
Dorado @ 12:15 Go get weird with Through The Sparks side action/module Dorado.  It’ll be fun, boozy, and cosmic…we think.
Dead Fingers / Shovels and Rope @ 12:30 Another super tough call.  Both rule hard in different ways…good luck.
